Swung by the @Newseum today. The Berlin Wall exhibit sticks with you, as does the memorial exhibit for slain journalists. Very sad to see this necessary space close Dec. 31. Go while you can.
My favorite exhibit was the MASSIVE collection of front pages spanning hundreds of years of major world events. @Newseum

Today, Fiona Hill, Trump's senior Russia advisor, goes behind closed doors for deposition to committee chairs spearheading the #impeachment inquiry.
Today is also Amb. Gordon Sondland's deadline for requested records re: Ukraine.
Sondland records are due by COB. His testimony for lawmakers is slated for Oct 16.
Then there is Semyon aka Sam Kislin, a longtime Giuliani associate. He is expected to be deposed today too.

BREAKING: A former Defense Intelligence Agency analyst has been charged w/providing journalists top secret & classified national defense info, incl. secrets related to an unnamed foreign country’s weapons systems, prosecutors in VA announced today.

@CourthouseNews Henry Frese, 30, was arrested this morning at a DIA facility in Reston, Va., according to the FBI.
According to the indictment, the counter terrorism analyst sometime in mid-April 2018 accessed an intelligence report “unrelated to his job duties”...
that contained the sensitive information about a foreign country’s weapons systems. He accessed it again in late April and then messaged a reporter prosecutors only identified as “Journalist 1.”

New statistics reported Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection show that roughly 1 million migrants have been arrested at the southern border in the last year, the most in over a decade.

@CourthouseNews Starting this week, CBP acting commissioner Mark Morgan also said the Trump admin will begin implementing restrictions on asylum claims at the southern border after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed them to take effect last month.
The policy generally makes people who arrive at the southern border ineligible for asylum unless they first sought asylum in a country they passed through on their way to the United States.

This was rare and very weird.

"Eat." Jihyo says as she tosses the body to Sana.

Sana just looks at her, confused. "For me?"

"Did I stutter?" Jihyo flinches, almost imperceptibly. She turns to Momo. "You stay here. I'm going to meditate. Do not bother me."

Momo only nods.
As soon as they can't hear Jihyo's steps anymore, Momo and Sana exchange gazes.

"She hunted for me." Sana looks at the body by her feet. It was a tall, muscular man, with enough blood for a nice feast. "A good one, too."

Momo sits by her side. "Feels like a last meal."
Sana feels all strength draining from her body. "So that's what this is."

Momo puts a hand on her shoulder. "I was joking."

"But you're probably right." Sana groans. "I think I fucked it all up."

"You didn't." Momo insists. "And if you did, I'll protect you."

Very sad to see this. The debate over trans rights has become one of the most polarised and hostile I have seen, so sadly I’m not surprised. Hopefully as a society we can work to be a little more compassionate towards each other bbc.co.uk/news/uk-487563…
I think this issue is one where a human rights approach is so crucial. An appreciation that every individual has a basic right to dignity, to flourish, to live without discrimination. That rights aren’t a finite cake where you take a piece for one and deny it to another.
Yes, there are issues around how the law is calibrated to allow people to officially change their gender. But a liberal, compassionate and creative society can solve those issues like we have solved myriad others in the past decades.

Very sad to see my ex-students who recently graduated frm uni sharing FB posts on how to write job application emails. One of the shared posts begins with "Korang mesti tak pernah belajar tulis email kat sekolah kan". This is how school betrays and abandons our youth.
We were too busy teaching SPM students to write like a novelist or public speaker or columnist. What they really needed was how to write job application emails.
Because syllabi and standards and exams are written by old people who have gone out of touch with what young people need.
