@SamuelMarcLowe @UKTradeForum The biggest problem the UK Government will face on a US trade deal is that it is a political not economic decision, designed to undermine our ability to do an EU trade deal. It isn't a priority for most business groups in UK or US, particularly given TTIP experiences.
@SamuelMarcLowe @UKTradeForum And as we've seen the Irish lobby in the US can also do politics very well, in potentially vetoing a UK-US deal if it adversely affects Northern Ireland peace. The UK wants to play with the bigger kids on trade policy and that's going about as well as you'd expect.
@SamuelMarcLowe @UKTradeForum We've known about these trade-offs between US and EU for two years but there's been no serious discussion or even acknowledgment from the UK Government. Until there is we're going to continue to flounder in all of our talks /end
