Infuriating. These are not bathroom bill cases. The thing the bathroom bills claim to be addressing isn't even an actual live problem occurring in places with trans anti-discrimination laws.

And yet this illusory fear dominates even tangential discussions.
One of the problems here is that people simply don't know that we've had trans anti-discrimination laws in many places going back to the mid-1990s.

People think this is new and scary, a problem to be solved. In fact, it's so unremarkable you didn't even know it was going on.
Minnesota, for example, has had trans anti-discrimination protections for 25 years without the dreaded "men in the ladies room" problem.

The degree to which this fear has suddenly surged into the public consciousness suggests it's a moral panic.
