Today @CHSFLYteam visited some elem. kids & we did some skits on friendship, inclusivity, and embracing each other’s differences... this 4th grd boy took the skit about judging others’ outfits to the level of racism and my jaw dropped! Talking about how 1/
“It’s like racism back in the 1800s the white people were prejudiced & discriminated against the black people” & I was in the back like PREACH kid, keep going! I literally clapped 👏🏼

Bravo to this boys’ parents & 👩🏼‍🏫👨🏽‍🏫, doing some things SO right out at West Point @teachindavis
(the high school students were the one leading the discussion, otherwise I’d have added that people CONTINUE to discriminate people for the color of their skin, just not overtly like slavery, but more implicitly through racist policies, being exclusionary etc)

Today is #OrangeShirtDay2019 in Canada, where they honor Indigenous children who were forced to go to residential schools to be assimilated. Abuse in all forms was severe & rampant & many died. Some perished while trying to escape to go home to their families.
We don’t have #OrangeShirtDay in the US but Native children here were also taken from their families to be assimilated. Today I honor my father, aunts & uncles who were all put in boarding school & subjected to hunger, neglect & severe abuse for being & speaking Dakota/Lakota.
The picture is of my Oceti Sakowin (Great Sioux Nation) aunts, uncles and father, on the Spirit Lake Nation Reservation in ND. He’s the little guy in the hat. They took him when he was 4.

Today was 1st Communion Day in our children's class. Our two didn't make theirs as we are not religious. When our children were born there was no big day out for a Christening. No 1st confession & they don't go to the school Masses in the church next door during school hours.
Over the last few months school has been a bit tough for them. The religious instruction & faith formation steps up a gear in 2nd class. During faith formation our kids are given reading or maths to do on their own (with no help, feedback or correction).
There was supposed to be a nice project for our girls to do this year, but the school never followed up on it despite requests. Anyway faith formation class can involve a lot of things.

The story of Gobo Fango is a dismal history of slavery and oppression in South Africa, the United States and from members of the #LDS church. For some strange reason it is often contorted into a "faith-affirming" LDS pioneer story as I recently experienced at church. --Zandra /1
The truth ain't always pretty So if you're members of the families that enslaved Gobo Fango then the history I'm about to drop might be uncomfortable but if we keep reworking LDS racial history to make it "comfortable" we never grow in the Gospel and we repeat our mistakes. -Z /2
Some LDS descendants of slave owners spend too much time spreading generational falsehoods about how their families "freed their slaves when they joined the church" but the slaves chose to stay as "family members". --Z /3

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
