Forensic investigation into Andrew Norfolk's reporting of the notorious 'Muslim foster carers' story.
bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
Lots to unpick here. But the one thing that really upset me is the journalist's insistence, against all the evidence, that the foster family were not suitable as foster carers.
But brilliant fact-by-fact destruction of his original reporting. Which reminded me of one of The Times headlines, intended to taunt critics.
Finally, I don't know what Norfolk thinks of Muslims. But the fact is that almost all his output over the past 10 years has concerned Muslims and Islam. Imagine if another leading journo of his generation had similarly only investigated a single ethnic or religious group.
Another 'finally'....Norfolk admits many factual errors and regrets much of the coverage. But The Times has never formally apologised and the stories are still available, unedited, on the website.
After my criticism of the reports, a number of former Times colleagues and friends 'went missing.' I hope they listen to this programme and have a good look at themselves.
