This is of course connected to the arrest of Giuliani’s associates, Parnas and Fruman, who were part of the Ukraine matter for which Trump will be impeached.
2/ In March of 2018, Bob Bauer, writing for Lawfare, predicted that the way Trump “uses and abuses” lawyers may well bring his presidency down.

Bauer noted that Trump doesn’t look to his lawyers for legal advice. In fact, he openly disregards legal advice.
3/ Instead, he sends his lawyers to do his bidding.

Trump’s view is that his lawyer’s job is to find a way around the law while providing him with a veil of deniability.

Bauer reminds us that Nixon’s lawyer Kalmbach managed secret funds that he used to finance sabotage . . .
4/ . . . and spy operations against Democrats. Kalmbach was convicted of illegal fundraising and sentenced to prison.

All eyes now on Giuliani


Does this sound like mob behavior? It should. Mob lawyers are a thing.
5/ Reagan commissioned a study of organized crime & found “renegade attorneys” who launder money, orchestrate perjured testimony, offer bribes, use law offices to plan crimes, etc. See:

If Giuliani brings down Trump, Bob Bauer gets credit for how Trump’s downfall would come about.

Summary:
Election laws protect elections from illegal foreign influence and provide transparency to maintain public confidence in elections. . .
1/ Defendants Parnas, Fruman, Correia, and Kukushkin conspired to funnel foreign money to candidates in violation of U.S. election law.

They concealed the scheme by laundering money through limited liability bank accounts and straw donors, and making false statements to the FEC.
2/ Parnas is a US citizen born in Ukraine.

Fruman is a US citizen born in Belarus.

Kukushkin is a US citizen born in Ukraine.

Correia, a US citizen, born here.

Foreign National-1: A Russian citizen and businessman. (Has anyone reported who this is? If so, I haven't seen it.)

It's now being reported that Trump himself drafted that 8-page letter sent to Congress.

Trump drafted the letter for all the usual cult-of-leadership reasons (Trump knows better than anyone else; his gut instinct is better than elite academics, etc.)

Given that the "legal" arguments were 100% bogus, it wouldn't actually surprise me.

Not that this concerns Trump's lawyers, but there is actually a code of legal ethics.

Among other things, lawyers aren't supposed to knowingly make false statements.

WH counsel shouldn't have signed that letter if they knew it contained bogus arguments and was drafted by Trump.

It's a political letter, attempting to frame impeachment on Trump’s terms.
1/ The Democrats should not let Trump control how impeachment is framed.

I'll start by debunking a few of the letter's bogus legal points.
I can’t debunk them all.
The letter uses the Firehose of Falsehood strategy: Keep everyone busy playing whack-a-lie
2/ But let's take the claim that the House impeachment inquiry is "unauthorized" and “unconstitutional."

The letter claims the inquiry is “unauthorized” because the past impeachment inquiries started with a full house vote, but this one didn't.

Giuliani’s associates Parnas and Fruman (along with two others) were charged in a 21-page, four-count indictment in SDNY.
