yes. its completely a myth based on this one quote people bring up from him. when he says, whatever it is, “ive been working on a deep background project, they said they contacted me because i am good at speaking”, in context hes clearly talking about a supraphysical phenomenon
you could say “ah well he was slightly involved with this group and that group was involved with alphabet intelligence agencies” but thats not what people are saying when they drop the extremely popular myth claim “did you know terrence mckenna was an FBI asset” or something
gotta consider, if he was talking about being an FBI asset in that quote, the clip is cut from like a Q + A session at a weekend seminar. theres zero reaction from the audience. why? because hes not suddenly revealing he is an FBI agent, hes just speaking normally about his work
if he was suddenly making this big reveal, of course there would be some reaction, but their isnt, because theyre familiar with how he speaks and what hes saying is extremely standard for how he talks.
just laying it out as this myth is extremely popular in conspiracy circles. ive heard “big people” drop it as though its 100% a fact and its always really disappointing and makes me respect them a little less because it means they, basically, play fast and loose with their claims
this has been a PSA from that guy who basically used to be a terrence mckenna devotee + has listened to all audio i could find of him more than once, though now sadly i think hes a good example of what [not] to do, if ur a certain psycho-spiritual archetype, for various reasons
