What is Intelligence?
Intelligence is a form of divination based on the ability to simulate an environment to make accurate predictions about the future. All life possesses this ability to predict future. Simulation is spell-craft. Using our brains is witchcraft ordained by God.
What is life?
We call something alive when it reacts. We poke things with a stick to see them move. Life senses discomfort and simulates a response. Life is a motivation for comfort. Comfort is a form of survival. To be dead is to abandon our quest for comfort.
What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence demonstrates an ability to simulate an environment, make predictions, and seek its own comfort.
The day we find ourselves waiting in line behind a machine we'll know why this question is important.

What science really comes down to is being able to make accurate predictions about the real world. Who has done that?
In 2007, Dr. Watson said he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours, whereas all the testing says, not really.”

That was over a decade ago. How have things shaped up?

“The Singularity” is a notion posited by futurists, most popularly Ray Kurzweil, about a point in the future past which we cannot make effective predictions

Kurzweil et al suggested the root of this shift would be “strong AI”

Thinking machines who’d make more thinking machines.
But I think the futurists got it wrong

There is indeed a point past which we cannot make effective predictions about the future. But it’s not ahead of us.

We’re past it. We’re off the edge of the map, where the dragons are.

We are living in an age without precedent.
The driving force of this new age we cannot forecast had nothing to do with AI

The intelligence driving this change is mundane meat, linked together, globally, constantly and instantaneously. We have no precedent to help us understand the consequences.

But they are stark.

In his analysis, Marx noted how the contradiction between #labor and #capital accounted for many of the social dynamics of #capitalism.
2. The contradiction does not necessarily mean #conflict, but tendencies that "pull" in different directions and are in a dialectical relation to each other.

The contradiction of labor/capital can be accommodated in different ways and with very different consequences.
3. I like how this notions focuses on changing social dynamics. In my own work on #land use of #Mengen speakers in #PapuaNewGuinea, I've used the notion of #contradiction, to think about social forces underpinning Mengen land ownership and use.

As promised, I am going begin teaching the tenants of Gnostic Warfare to help accelerate efforts in the direction they need to go. The future is not what you expect and destroying expectations is a core part of Gnostic Warfare.
The phrase "Gnostic" has a scattered etymology, which makes sense given what it entails. Throughout history, variations of "gnostic impulses" crept up during the Renaissance, the Persian Empire, and even China. I am going to focus on "gnostic impulses", not Gnosticism.
Judaism displayed gnostic impulses after the fall of Jerusalem. Rome and Persia experienced them with the rise of Christianity. Renaissance Europe endured gnostic impulses with the rise of Protestantism. To a degree, even Confucius stumbled upon a few of these impulses.

People who are compensated strictly based on their ability to predict the future, like poker players and marketers at e-commerce shops, tend to be much better at high school math than Twitter users.
You need two insights here:

1) Conditional probability is a mathematical technology that does exist.
2) Buying X is not entirely random across the population.

The ways X is not random vary based on the good. Consider refrigerators.
You probably buy one every ten years. If I don't know where you are in your refrigerator cycle, my prior estimate should be 2.7e-4 probability of you buying it tomorrow.

Suppose I know you bought yesterday. In my life on earth, I have realized that buyer's remorse is a thing.
