I have an idea. Facebook, but without someone trying to alternately monetize and weaponize our emotions, our desires, our creativity, and our relationships. I know, outrageous, right?
I recognize that this is a totally naive question coming from a place of tremendous ignorance...but given that you can download all of your FB data onto your hard drive, and that we each own (or should own) our own data, why is there no $3/month non-sociopathic alternative to FB?
As in, let me remain connected to my network of family and friends and let us share whatever we want with each other, but just don't sell our data to anyone and don't try to sell us anything. I'd happily pay for that service.
I'm sure this version of FB would have far less growth potential and would be far less profitable. But is there really no well intentioned Silicon Valley billionaire out there who'd be willing to give this a shot?
Again, totally spitballing with no knowledge of this stuff, but don't you think there are 10 million disgruntled FB users out there who'd pay $3/month to jump ship to an alternative w/o ads & data mining? That's $30 million per month revenue stream.
