American tariffs on Canadian aluminum & steel are unacceptable. As we have said, we will always stand up for our workers, and today we’re announcing retaliatory measures to this attack on our industry.
Canada will impose tariffs against imports of steel, aluminum, and other products from the US – we are imposing dollar for dollar tariffs for every dollar levied against Canadians by the US.
These countermeasures will only apply to goods originating from the US and will take effect on July 1, and will remain in place until the US eliminates its trade-restrictive measures against Canada.

Want to talk about this piece by @gabrielwinant, going to do it “compliment sandwich” style cause it is very much worth reading even though I disagree with it. First off, it provides a great comprehensive history of the term “professional-managerial class” nplusonemag.com/online-only/on…
However, my qualm with it can be summed up in the metaphor at the end: “We need not smash the seed [of Left PMCs] to plant it in better soil [alliance with the working class instead of the bourgeoisie].” Now I understand that this piece was written by and for the PMC but...
I think this misunderstands what PMC solidarity with the working class would look like. It suggests that the PMC should just orient their skills towards empowering the working class. But I think the skills themselves need to fundamentally be changed.

Two-Nation Theory is misconceived by a lot of people as an exclusively religious argument. Consequently, opponents bring in different aspects of pre-partition India to counter it and attempt to make it irrelevant in modern era. This thread addresses that misconception. 1/N
Firstly, yes after 1937 what is considered “the religious aspect”, (Hindus and Muslims are two nations based on religion) was highlighted by Muslim League. However, as Jinnah said, this wasn’t just limited to rituals and theology but also values, legal laws, moral codes etc. 2/N
Leftists, the main opponents of 2NT, argue that Hindus and Muslims did not always live with a religious divide between them and the lines were often blurred. Example of Sayyid Ibrahim is often invoked alongwith policy of tolerance of certain rulers, both Hindu & Muslim. 3/N

Some thoughts triggered by the Barcelona #ECTB2018 meeting. 1) Genomic Medicine is here, *now*, certainly for rare disease. Exome or Genome (doesn't really matter which) is *cost effective* at diagnosis and informing management of rare diseases.
This means ~2% of live births in *every* country (certainly every country with a developed healthcare system) should have an exome or genome, plus parents (usually ~2.5 genomes per suspected rare disease genome)
This is solid, replicated, multi-system experience, and means that over time, ~5% of every population should have their genome sequenced. Every country should be actively planning this, and working out how to operationalise it inside their healthcare system.
