In three years, FBI’s Russia counter intelligence went from being one of the best places to work to a political minefield. Russia attacked America in 2016 election and in response the DoJ launched multiple investigations against the investigators.
Senate Intel committee report just 2 weeks back alluded FBI needing to have greater role in protecting future election. But inside FBI being beat up for this work last election. I don’t know how Director Wray can pursue this mission without being beat up by both political sides

This former official is exactly right. The FBI’s public handling of investigations in 2016 hurt Clinton and helped Trump. 
we are still wallowing in the 2016 election when we’re one year away from 2020 election, all sorts of election interference being pursued. Not one piece of legislation from Congress has been passed. Defenders doing everything they can on their own, limited funds, little guidance
Have to say whether it’s social media companies or FBI/DHS/NSA/CYBERCOM, all have aggressively moved forward to defend 2020 in spite of U.S. political leadership rather because of political leadership
Only disappointing aspect is Facebook allowing deliberately false political ads, but could also point to Capitol Hill and ask why they haven’t passed Honest Ads Act.
