Corporation should not be allowed to donate to political campaigns or PACs at all.
Amazon dropping all this money into Seattle elections in the last few years shows their fear. Amazon big wigs are terrified that Seattle will set a new level of expectations for corporations to act socially responsible.
They are terrified that we will codify this social responsibility. They are terrified that they will finally have to pay their fair share of taxes. So they are dumping obscene amounts of money into our elections.
Corporations have no legitimate place in elections. The individual voters that work for said corporations do, but the corporation itself does not get a vote. Corporations already have the financial and work capacity to out lobby individual voters during legislative sessions.
Which means when policies are being developed and pushed, they can use their money to attempt to out organize less resourced communities.
Additionally, corporations have the ability to sway and deceive voters during elections with their big money donations to corporate PACs, they have the money to pay professional lobbyists to ensure the policies they favor get passed...
...they can fund large public campaigns which serve their corporate agenda, and many of them do this while not paying even close to their fair share of taxes.
I think we should get rid of all corporate money in elections. If the people who work for those corporations want to donate the maximum amount to the candidate of their choice, they should.
But corporations aren't people (no matter what the case law says) and they should not be allowed to deceptively sway elections in their favor.
