History on lynching in the South (Thread):

Anyone who would cavalierly invoke lynching does not understand the true horror of what happened. There’s no other word for it but terrorism.

After the Civil War, white supremacists in the South wanted to keep their social dominance.
2/ Domestic terror groups operated in the antebellum South in an attempt to intimidate anyone who was against slavery.

In Texas, there was a mass murder of 41 abolitionists. No legal trials, no judge. They were just tortured to death.

These groups continued after the Civil War.
3/ Eventually, these domestic terrorist groups formed the KKK. Their mission was to terrorize Freedmen into not voting or running for office.

From 1868-1871 there were OVER 400 LYNCHINGS. The US population was only 38 million, and this terror spread through the nation.
4/ We have almost no data on the number of Latino and Chinese people lynched after 1890, because no one bothered to count.

But in the Chinese Massacre of 1871, a mob of 500 went into an Asian neighborhood and slaughtered 20 people. This was domestic terrorism.
5/ The next 50 years would see ALMOST 5,000 Americans lynched for opposing white supremacy. And we are still paying for that shameful legacy to this day.

It is beyond disgraceful that this president would invoke the horrors of lynching to fuel his pathetic victimhood.
