Things the scribe should write on the lobola letter/agreement:
Date and time the families met

Address where families met

Names of each representative and which partner (prospective spouse) they represent & their ID numbers

How much lobola is expected

How much the first installment left after first negotiation is (then balance outstanding)

Return date (usually followed by exchange of gifts and a celebration of sorts)

Expectation of gifts for return date - what gifts are expected for the bride’s parents or groom’s uncle etc

Any issues which have been agreed upon especially where ethnic practices differ

Initial of every rep on each page

Signature of each party present at the negotiation (on the last page)

Then: 2 elected parties from each side should go to the nearest printing shop to make a copy of that letter (alternatively scribe can rewrite a duplicate). Duplicate must be signed by each party present at the negotiation.

Ideally once all this is done the letter should be laminated so the ink does not wither. You will need this letter to register your customary marriage at home affairs. This letter is important for life especially if you never get around to registering the marriage at home affairs
