Thinking through the Northern Ireland protocol some further thoughts arise - presumably fishing vessels based in the province can land fish without usual EU external checks, but Scottish based fleet would not be able to do so (same fishing rights though)
There's some pretty high agricultural produce tariffs proposed for the UK, strikes me it would be pretty easy to circumvent those for produce from EU (or even coming into EU as part of quota), bring them to Ireland, then on to mainland GB
Company cars perhaps, was thinking about the case of basing a fleet in Northern Ireland, paying no tariffs for entry from EU, but then presumably nothing to stop the individual drivers being based in GB? Similarly consumers would buy cars from Northern Ireland surely?
Everything individually can be dealt with, but it is disingenuous to suggest these problems don't occur, or that there's no checks on NI - GB trade, since there really have to be, however these are arranged, and whatever legislation is put in place.
