A couple thoughts from the train on last night’s #Worcester School Committee forum.
First, you read Nicole, right?
Also, @ScottOConnellTG’s article has the video imbedded so go use one of your T&G articles on that. telegram.com/news/20191022/…
My major hope (not just as a candidate, but as a resident of Worcester) is that voters actually listen to what people say, not go by theories of who people are or connections they have.
There was some...well-worn lines being used last night that don’t really mean anything. There also were just answers that didn’t mean anything.
Jack Foley got the evening’s mic drop: as we all were asked to respond to the placement of a new Doherty, Jack said “Holden.”
Any forum in which it is pointed out that Worcester is sinking in percent over required minimum spending is useful, and any night when that point isn’t being made by Jack Foley or me is immensely cheering, so h/t @clbergpowers for nailing that one last night.
I really like how @JohnTrobaugh ties things back to his main issue of parental engagement (and he isn’t straining to do so; it really flows).
Actual lived impacts of district policy is really something @ChantelBethea is bringing forward when she speaks.
Also Mariah Martinez is just channeling the exasperation that is part and parcel of living with educational decisions in Worcester right now. It is so on point.
Which gets, I think, at the major contrast among candidates: there’s been this push by some of the incumbents around challengers being “so negative.”

But the challengers who are negative, as they are negative, are speaking of their own and their families’ own experiences.
The incumbents largely are not.
And gaslighting our experiences won’t work.
I think the only incumbent channeling that level of exasperation is Jack Foley (and rightly so).
Also, @Jermoh4WPS is the other “recent student” running and is another counter with “this is how things are” experience.
