Because of precedent. The DOJ doesn’t think in terms of what will make Trump look good, they think in terms of what precedent this sets for Americans willingness to testify if that testimony could be leaked and innocent people are smeared or possible retaliation.
This isn’t about Trump. It’s about the rule of law and fairness for all people in our system of justice. Grand Jury Testimony should always be guarded. The release of it undermines the rule of law and the rights of all Americans.
I would love for this case to go to SCOTUS because it would ultimately strengthen and affirm the rights of all Americans.
