1) I think situations like older 🗣and younger white people calling Black people the N-Word in public settings is more common than we think.

The response in regards to how the situation is handled is where we are now.

I think there are a few responses that are appropriate.
2) White people have to commit themselves to speaking out about racism, bias, privilege, and be willing to have the difficult conversation with your granny, auntie, cousin or whomever that you know is racist, but you let it slide because “it’s just who they are.” No, speak up!
3) Black people have to make a concerted effort to not allow ignorant people who want to use racial slurs to demean us to not have power over us. It doesn’t mean ignore it, but it means that we don’t give them the satisfaction that they’re looking for. They want you to react.
4) If people want to be ignorant and call us the N-word and other racial epithets...keep in mind, it’s 2019.. we can dox them, expose them, but most importantly, continue to flourish... that’s really what they’re upset about.
Collectively, We all have to come to grips and admit that our nation was built on white supremacist principles, and that inherently we all have biases that we need to check. Do the individual work to undue your prejudice & then work collectively to dismantle White Supremacy.
If we all commit ourselves daily to doing the difficult and uncomfortable work of dismantling white supremacy, piece by piece... then we will continue to see progress. Considering where this nation started, we’ve made strides, but got a loooong way to go. We have to commit to it!
And lastly, we commit by putting our resources where our mouths are. Don’t talk to me about healing or reconciliation w/o reallocation of resources. Specifically for local and state governments, you show me how much you care about race relations by putting equity in your budget.
