The vote on whether we'll be having a General Election soon won't be happening until this evening, but there's never a bad time to say ...

THREAD 🧵

If you are in a mental health unit, if you're likely to be staying there for a long time then you can register using the hospital address OR your permanent home address using the link above. You can register even if you're detained under the Mental Health Act 2/
If you're not sure where you'll be living once you're discharged, you can declare a local connection & vote there. This could be your previous address, a friend's house or a hostel / shelter where you spend a lot of time. You need this form: bit.ly/32TOPhE 3/
You can also use the same form to declare a local connection if you're currently homeless: bit.ly/32TOPhE

(please share this thread with your favourite people working in the mental health / prison / homelessness sector by the way) 4/
Non-convicted prisoners on remand are eligible to vote. They can register at the prison address using this form: bit.ly/32TOPhE OR at the address where they would normally live if they were not in custody via this link: gov.uk/register-to-vo… 5/
If you're a student you can register to vote at your term-time address AND your home address and decide on the day where you would like to cast your vote. You're not able to vote in both places though! It's just the usual link to register: gov.uk/register-to-vo… 6/
If you're not likely to be able to get to a polling station for whatever reason, it's a good idea to apply for a postal vote: gov.uk/government/pub… It must arrive before 10pm on election day, and if you need to you can hand it over in person on the day 7/
Under certain circumstances (too many to list in a Twitter thread 🤯) you can also nominate a proxy to vote on your behalf if you're not going to be able to get to a polling station. Read more about this here: bit.ly/2BRWeCm 8/
So get registering, & if you work in an inpatient unit / prison or w/ homeless people, find out what your organisation is doing to make sure ppl are registered to vote & get downloading & printing out the paper forms. Do your bit to make sure everyone who's eligible can vote! 9/
