Related to this Cancer Alley piece: I would like to see some research on a thing that is happening that I think is the Second Great Migration but which I have only observed anecdotally; still, I am really sure there’s something happening.
The pollution, the flooding, the RACISM OH GOOD LORD THE RACISM, the impossible costs of healthcare and childcare and just care, all care, there is so little care... people are leaving and non-white people are leaving especially, I really am certain of it.
I don’t think anyone even really studied the first Great Migration in depth until Isabel Wilkerson’s absolutely earth-shattering The Warmth of Other Suns, so I hope it doesn’t take 60 years this time.

Hi! I’m a leftist who helped install a water purification system in Cuba & work regularly with a network that has installed upwards of 100 systems there. The reason they don’t have clean water is because the embargo makes it nearly impossible to get the supplies to build systems.
After the tornado in Havana, which tore up some of the municipal pumping structures, the government immediately sent fire trucks filled with water to a couple of our purification stations so they could continue to provide clean water to their surrounding communities.
We’d love to install water purification systems in places like Flint, poisoned by a corrupt local government, but none of the filtration systems we use (reverse osmosis, ozone, and UV) takes out heavy metals, only biological contaminants.

2 French billionaires snapped their fingers and raised $300,000,000 for the rebuilding of Notre Dame.

38,000 of us pledged what we could, ranging from $1 to $50,000, in order to raise $2,000,000 to rebuild a few black churches.

That’s what wealth inequality looks like.
I am not ungrateful for those rebuilding Notre Dame. I think it’s a priceless piece of architecture. But if it takes 38,000 people to raise 1% of what a couple of billionaires can scrape out of the couch cushions, we’ve got a bigger problem.
I think a lot of us down here in the hundredaire class are unable to even grasp what being a billionaire means, but I think at some point, we need to stop abstracting it, work out the math, and realize that all billionaires are policy failures, full stop.

OK, that prologue. It's *NOT* a vision of a better life for Luke. It's a warning from the Force, which has used a dream to slip through Luke's defenses. In both dream and reality, Luke's life is seemingly tranquil but evil is ascendant everywhere else in the galaxy.
Why start there? I wanted to open with Luke and step back in time; to be in Luke's head in a way that would be harder later, when we're exploring Rey's story and he's a mystery she's trying to solve; and to introduce the idea of the Force as almost a character in its own right.

Many Iranians criticised one of BBC Farsi’s journalists for her comments on Iran-Hezbullah relations. Some have even threatened her that she won’t be allowed to go back to Iran after the fall of the regime. Many Iranians believe some of @bbcpersian journalists support the regime.
In the past few days some anti-BBC slogans have been chanted by the protesters in Iran. In a comment one of BBCFarsi journalist claims that ‘Trump wants to turn Iran into another Syria by starting a civil war etc’. The same propaganda which is pumped out by Iranian state media.
Some of @BBCPersian journalists block anyone who criticises them. One of its journalists in particular has publicly supported A.Khamenei on his social media pages. I have written to a few MPs and the BBC about. Will see if BBC is interested in opening an investigation.
