What would have happened to Obamacare if the American people in 2009 had known it would cost $52 trillion to "fix" it?
For those who say it wouldn't have made any difference: sure, the con artists who designed Obamacare knew their cost projections were fantasies and the true socialist believers didn't care, but an awful lot of people who passively accepted Obamacare might have rejected it.
Remember, the Democrats put a LOT of effort into gaming the Congressional Budget Office ten-year projections to make Obamacare look less expensive than it really was, and that shell game was chump change compared to Liz Warren's price tag for "fixing" it.
Everything about Obamacare was a lie, but a great deal of energy was expended to make those lies look plausible enough for DNC Media to run with. "Journalists" worked overtime to make Obamacare's critics look like unreasonable fearmongers with "fact checks."
One of the criticisms attacked with the greatest ferocity was the (100% accurate) warning by critics that Obamacare was designed to fail and usher in socialized medicine. This was attacked with absurd claims that O-care would pay for itself or even turn a profit.
If the American people of 2009 could have seen the insane plan Liz Warren cooked up, they would have revolted against Obamacare with pitchforks-and-torches intensity. It might well have been enough to shake a few nervous "moderate" Dems loose.
A lot of that dog-and-pony show to conceal Obamacare's costs was meant to shore up moderate red-and-purple-state Democrat support. The ultimate audience for a lot of Obamacare propaganda was wobbly congressional Democrats and Beltway media.
It's hard to remember that political playing field now because so many of the moderate Dems are gone now, some of them because of Obamacare and the overall hard-Left movement of the Dem Party. Moderate Dems *were* a thing before Barack Obama came along.
If you think back to how they responded when they were swept out of Congress, a lot of those moderate Dems did not willingly sign up for a kamikaze mission to pave the way for socialized medicine. They really thought Obamacare would more-or-less work.
Of course "what if we had all known back then?" is a hypothetical, but it should very definitely inform how the American people view the next snake-oil pitch from socialists. Don't get fooled again. Don't think for a second we'd be in this mess if we had known the truth. /end
