X : Why do you pick on Kubernetes? FOMO? Personal?
Me : Me? FOMO? Oh gosh ... I'm not picking on Kubernetes out of FOMO, I'm just saying its focus is too far down the stack. It'll win a battle and lose the war ...
... as for personal, interesting. There are some great people that I like an awful lot involved in Kubernetes (e.g. @kelseyhightower) but then the same was true for OpenStack and CloudFoundry etc. I suppose you could argue that if I didn't care, I probably wouldn't say anything.
I certainly don't mention Oracle for example because ... well, I honestly don't care. I have no real connection to that collective that I'm aware of. But I do give MSFT, Google and even Amazon a hard time where I feel necessary because ... I have friends there.
I do like it when my friends prove me wrong but ... I don't know, I suppose it's in my nature ... I'm just not willing to say nothing and if I care, I'm not going to sugar coat it.

So, FOMO ... no. But personal ... you've got a point.

Me : I don't mind, my ideal occupation is as a hermit. Alas, I've find a tribe of curmudgeons that keep me happy and when I'm not there, I don a cape and join the Epistemic Justice League

There are so many good comments and advice in the survey. Thank you so much and it will all be listened to and acted upon where possible.

Two things which truly made me beam.
1) "Felt like a community"
2) "definitely felt like less of a cult-of-simon event"
I cannot express how much joy and comfort it brings me to know that should I get hit by a bus tomorrow that mapping will continue.

Eventually, my form of maps will be replaced with better maps - the delightful fate of all models that expose a new space.
The joy is not that the model is right (it's not) but that a door has been opened and others are walking through.

That's the magic. Shining a light so others can find something more beautiful.

I think I'm feeling a sense of being content. That's a new one for me.

Me : My nature is I tend to accentuate flaws. Though I see far more flaws with Freeman's analysis of Mead. I'm also a geneticist by training which means ...
... on the whole nature vs nurture style of debate then I'm both with a heavy dose of cross generational inheritance of environmental factors. I often find the debate to be too reductionist e.g. selfish genes etc.
You have to remember that when I grew up in genetics there was a sudden explosion in gene sequencing machines and obviously that meant a lot of promotion of the idea that it was all about the "sequence" ... that's just one part of the story.

You always judge the performance of an executive by what they start in the first 100 days ... so what exactly has been done? A rehashed deal with no agreement, a delay and a bunch of future promises .... not exactly overwhelming. Both Cameron and May did more ->
Though I fundamentally disagree with the political aspects of austerity that was driven under @David_Cameron (but not with necessity to reduce waste) ... I am impressed by the energy, drive and motivation to create change that he brought. Boris is a pale imitation.
I have a strong bias towards @jeremycorbyn being that I'm old Labour - blog.gardeviance.org/2015/05/i-am-o… ... and I was not happy about political dogma of austerity. But I thought @David_Cameron resignation was a terrible loss. It's a pity.

Boris is no fool but he is no leader either.

Wrapping up a week long stay in the Bay Area. Thanks to all the founders, VCs and others in the #fintech community that took time out to meet.

Here are my key learnings (including one massive shock):
It's become clear that there are two key reasons why there is such a density of successful #startups here:

First up: A bias to optimism
Everyone seems optimistic. VCs in the Bay talk about the size of the opportunity and what needs to go right for something to work out, vs European VCs that focus on metrics and risk.

This is the difference between atheists who are actual professional philosophers and online pop atheists.
This is what a reasonable discourse sounds like.
So, since there is no prima facie case that belief in God in unreasonable or irrational, nor even a sophisticated case—there is NO CASE that is conclusive, the MOST one can argue is that the atheism is the most reasonable position.

It isn’t but that is the most one could argue.
