@RadicalPartners 5/ City elections like these draw *millions* in campaign 💵 given directly to candidates.

#VoteMiami analyzed available** campaign finance data in Miami + Miami Beach to show the role donations play in politics.

(**Homestead + Hialeah use paper.)

@RadicalPartners 6/ In Miami, voters in Districts 1 and 2 will elect their representatives.

Here’s an overview of both races (+ links for the candidates and issues):

@RadicalPartners 7/ Miami's District 2 spans the city’s waterfront, from Coconut Grove to Morningside.

Candidates are talking about redevelopment, flooding and housing issues.

@RadicalPartners 8/ District 2’s incumbent commissioner — Ken Russell — has raised $1 million for his re-election campaign.

He called that same amount "obscene" when he first ran in 2015.

@RadicalPartners 9/ (Russell gave some of that 💵 to his former chief of staff, who’s running for District 1.)

@RadicalPartners 10/ Folks in Homestead already had their primary, so in this election, voters will choose three elected officials from a field of six.

Developers are investing in campaigns there.

@RadicalPartners 11/ Hey, Miami Beach: “Dark money” from political action committees is always spent in your elections, even though many politically active residents don’t like it.

@RadicalPartners 12/ For folks in Hialeah, 13 candidates are running to fill four seats on the City Council.

@RadicalPartners 13/ Also on the ballot? Five important questions that would change the City Charter — or Hialeah's constitution.

One ballot question would increase the mayor’s spending power during a state of emergency.

@RadicalPartners 14/ Should Miami Beach commissioners get a raise?

That’s one of six questions on every Miami Beach voter's ballot.

@RadicalPartners 15/ Speaking of the Miami Beach Commission...

There’s an open seat.

Four candidates are in the running, including a former state lawmaker + a local restaurant owner.

@RadicalPartners 16/ Oh, and the city of Miami has an open seat, too.

There are seven candidates:
📍 a state lawmaker with experience (+ baggage) miamiherald.com/news/politics-…

📍 a local businessman who's run twice before + says crime is a priority miamiherald.com/news/politics-…

...
@RadicalPartners 📍 the race’s only woman, who says the city bureaucracy needs to be more user-friendly + the commission’s “machismo” needs to stop miamiherald.com/news/politics-…

📍 a real estate broker who wants to see his district develop a master plan for the future elnuevoherald.com/noticias/sur-d…

...
@RadicalPartners ...

📍 a former city hall staffer with support from the Democratic Party miamiherald.com/news/politics-…

📍 a former cop with a colorful past miamiherald.com/news/politics-…

anddd...

📍 an attorney who wants to revamp parking fees miamiherald.com/news/politics-…
@RadicalPartners 17/ Why's voting in this election so important?

The same elections that impact you the most — elections for local city hall — often have poor turnout when there isn't a presidential race.

#VoteMiami created a tool to dig into who is + isn’t voting.

@RadicalPartners 18/18 Can't make it out to cast your vote this weekend? Don't worry! You still got some options.

You could:
+ vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5)
+ or, vote by mail (which has grown in popularity)

But make sure your mail ballot is returned on time!
