We won! The Section 14 Order imposed by the Met Police, banning all XR public assemblies in London, has been declared UNLAWFUL by the High Court.
This is a crucial judgement. It protects everyone's democratic rights to protest against a draconian attempt to shut them down
Hundreds of us were arrested under Section 14, and many more were doubtless deterred from joining XR's protests. The Metropolitan Police attacked a fundamental human right - the right to dissent. And in doing so they behaved unlawfully.
I was one of the claimants in the judicial review against the police. But the work was done by the brilliant @Jules_Carey, @judebunting, Phillippa Kaufman QC, @BindmansLLP, Tobias Garnett, @XRlawyers and other smart and determined people. Thank you.
