Until we ban the import and export of live plants, a citizens' army fighting invasive species will be armed with pitchforks against helicopters.

I keep banging on about this, because it strikes me as amazing that while we are rightly concerned about climate breakdown and habitat destruction, hardly anyone seems angry about the global circulation of plant diseases, through the unnecessary live plant trade.
This spreading of plant diseases could wipe out forests everywhere, as every tree eventually meets its deadly pathogen. The benefits of the live plant trade are tiny by comparison to its costs. It's time we raised our voices to bring it to an end. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
