1. I argued in January that impeachment is best regarded as a process, not an outcome—a rule-bound procedure for adjudicating the most serious claims against a president. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…
2. One nugget that didn’t make it into the final draft? Two sitting Vice Presidents actually requested that the House initiate impeachment proceedings against them, to give them a chance to clear their names from the charges opponents had leveled against them.
3. I think that’s more than a good fact for trivia night (although, to be sure, it’s that, too). It’s a reminder that once charges are circulating, we need some sort of mechanism for resolving them—and, as the president’s defenders point out, the courts largely can’t do that.
