Johnson's comments about just binning customs/trade procedures from NI are not only untrue but also clear breach of duty of cooperation under EU law. European Council has said: no unilateral UK statements that undermine letter or spirit of Withdrawal Agreement inc IRL/NI Protocol
Withdrawal Agreement specifically refers to export controls from NI to GB for purposes of complying with EU's obligations under international law. By suggesting UK will "bin" all checks / controls, Johnson is either lying or seeking to undermine own agreement with EU
And remember: if we up end (quite possible) with either no deal or any deal involving EU-UK tariffs (eg because UK refuses proper social standards) then checks may also be required from NI to GB, to ensure goods from EU pay UK tariffs - otherwise UK may breach WTO obligations...
