Johnson's comments about just binning customs/trade procedures from NI are not only untrue but also clear breach of duty of cooperation under EU law. European Council has said: no unilateral UK statements that undermine letter or spirit of Withdrawal Agreement inc IRL/NI Protocol
Withdrawal Agreement specifically refers to export controls from NI to GB for purposes of complying with EU's obligations under international law. By suggesting UK will "bin" all checks / controls, Johnson is either lying or seeking to undermine own agreement with EU
And remember: if we up end (quite possible) with either no deal or any deal involving EU-UK tariffs (eg because UK refuses proper social standards) then checks may also be required from NI to GB, to ensure goods from EU pay UK tariffs - otherwise UK may breach WTO obligations...

Johnson has clearly chosen the N Ireland Protocol (that he designed) as prime vehicle for his Trumpian tactic of lying, ceaselessly & shamelessly, in order to con his way through high office & mask true nature of his government's actions. 3 main problems (well, for starters):
1) EU insists UK has legal duty to refrain from statements / actions incompatible with its own withdrawal agreement. Johnson's regular falsehoods about clear meaning / future application of NI Protocol amount to straightforward breach of UK's international legal commitments
2a) given Brexiters claim to be expert masters of international trade, they seem unable to grasp basic idea that mutual trust is central to success of cross-border economic relations. And mutual trust is not built on dishonourable conduct of sort Johnson elevates to an art-form

Writing report for 2020 International Federation of European Law in The Hague. Fascinating example from Portugal: Supreme Court refuses arrest warrant from UK because, post-Brexit, no guarantees that a non-Member State will respect basic human rights. So much for Case C-327/18?!
Two points 1) next time some Leaver claims Brexit won't interfere with UK's international security cooperation, point out it already has-without even happening yet 2) outside world sees what so many Brits can't: Brexit=threat to all our rights / protections against abuse of power
ps C-327/18= Irish case where ECJ said UK's notification of withdrawal shouldn't (in itself) interfere with crossborder security cooperation unless concrete evidence of human rights abuse. Portugal case seems to contradict that. Of course rules change on 01/02 & again after 31/12

UK freight forwarders/ brokers cannot recruit #customs specialists in sufficient numbers. The same way UK Gov cannot hire customs clerks, customs officials and the 500 border force officers Sajid Javid promised /1
First, as many incl @LeftPeggers pointed out, we don't have them in the UK (#customs is country specific, to a certain degree even within the EU, also not sure EU customs ppl would want to come work in the UK). /2
@LeftPeggers Second, customs is not something you can learn from a book as a lot of it requires direct experience. It's very different from other areas of tax where most rules are written down clearly (which still of course require direct experience)- customs rules are ambiguous at best /3

* Car factories. At risk 2.7 million workers
* Financial services. 2.19 million workers
* Component factories in aerospace and car tech.
* Games tech companies, 40% of which are considering moving to the EU.
* Restaurants & hotels - Jamie’s, Prezzo, Strada, Chimichanga, as people start to tighten their belts, middle range eateries suffer. 4.49 million workers in hospitality.
