3. In March 2018, after Donald Trump Jr. sent a tweet calling her a “joker,” then U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch sent an email to Undersecretary David Hale to voice her alarm and seek support. apps.npr.org/documents/docu… 
4. Former State Deptartment Senior Advisor Michael McKinley sent an email on Sept. 28, 2019, to Hale and other officials proposing a statement of support for Yovanovitch, testifying: “It was time to start creating a paper trail of my concern." apps.npr.org/documents/docu…
5. A week later, Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent wrote a memo outlining concerns about the department's response to congressional requests and the treatment of Foreign Service members. McKinley forwarded the memo to Hale and others. apps.npr.org/documents/docu…
