#FriendlyFire When @johnroderick asked who the audience was for Captain America it really made me think about why it was me. I grew up in the late '70s and early '80s reading comics when the characters were at the height of their world building. 1/
@johnroderick As an avid reader with no internet and limited TV and movie choices comics were great imagination fuel that fed my need for heroes and endeared them to me. 2/
@johnroderick But, outside of mall appearances or the low budget TV movies, the thought of seeing these characters filmed in a way that was as exciting as the books with a good story based on the world of that hero seemed impossible at the time. 3/
@johnroderick "Superman: The Movie" changed all that and it set the main goal I have in watching these movies: to see if it can live up to the mythos of the books. 4/
@johnroderick Not whether it's the best piece of cinema ever made based on our world's values and physical limitations. Just whether it's an exciting, entertaining story based on the world that hero comes from that represents the character as we know him/her/it. 5/
@johnroderick For me, some succeed and some fail. Such is life. Which ever way it lands I enjoy the gamble of going to the movies. I understand fans, but not fanatics. 6/
@johnroderick I hope a lot of the people watching these movies are like me. Sitting in those theaters hoping to be as excited by the film as we were by the comic pages, and hopefully leaving feeling like kids again and not acting like them if we don't. 7/
@johnroderick Thanks @CutForTime @BenjaminAhr @johnroderick for making an episode that made me revisit why I like a thing. It's good to do that from time to time. #FriendlyFire
