My White Roommate Called the Cops on Me Because I Put The Heat on 72 Degrees: A Thread

BACKGROUND STORY:

So I am SICK, likely coming down with a cold or even the flu. The temperature in Boston is in the 30-40s and my apartment was at about 65 degrees. I turned on the heat to 72 degrees because I was physically shivering.

Moments later I receive this text to our apartment group chat. Now while this message was framed as a general message, it was a direct response to my turning the heat on. And my roommate even went as far as to turn the heat off before sending the message.

So to nip things in the bud, I answer directly as to my reasoning for turning the heat on.

To which she responded this. Now
1. The heat has never been on when no one was home.
2. She stated she has no use for the HVAC...(because she has a heater) so I guess it’s screw my bodily temperature needs?
3. Snow isn’t a determinant of coldness. That’s just ridiculous

Here’s my response. This is where it gets staticky. I guess because my statement came off assertive she decided to respond by calling me a bully. This isn’t the first time she has called me a bully or used other Microaggresive terms against me.

Fast forward to later that night she sends a text saying she came home at 7:10 and the heat was on at 75 and no one was home. Y’all, this is a lie.

Not only was I home, but I put the heat on 72 degrees. There was no way in the world it was “above 74”.

The gag is...she thought no one was home to confirm or deny her claims. She never said anything after that last text. Fast forward to today and the cops being called...

So fast forward to today, I come home and the apartment is 64 degrees. The high in Boston today was 36 degrees and it felt like 20. ITS COLD. Naturally, I turn the heat on to 72. She comes in about 30 mins after me and what does she do? Turn the heat off.

So I turn the heat back on. She turns it off. I turn it on. She turns it off. I turn it on and she turns it off.

Wouldn’t the right thing to do had been to just ask me if I still needed the heat? If I minded lowering it a bit? But no, micro aggressions.

I’m annoyed at this point so I sent this text in the group chat. Asking her to
1. Clean the bathroom
And 2. Letting her know I won’t speak to her without a third party present

YALL THIS GIRL COMES IN THE APARTMENT YELLING. TELLING ME TO COME OUT OF MY ROOM. SHE IS TAUNTING ME, THREATNING ME ETC. AT THIS POINT IM ON THE PHONE WITH MY MOM SO I HADN’T STARTED RECORDING YET. BUT IN THIS VIDEO YOU CAN CLEARLY HERE HER OUTSIDE MY DOOR YELLING

YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE BRIANNA WAS THE AGGRESSOR IN ALL THIS. I WAS IN MY ROOM TRYING TO AVOID CONFLICT AND SHE STOOD OUTSIDE YELLING LIKE THAT FOR AWHILE BEFORE I TOOK MY PHONE OUT TO RECORD

So the argument ends, which I have a recording of where you can clearly hear that I never posed any kind of threat to her...fast forward BOOM THE COPS ARE HERE

Thankfully for me, the officers agreed this was a dumb issue to have called the cops over. They spoke to me, heard my side of the story and admitted it was pretty cold in the apartment. Stated they had to come speak to me for record since they were called

BUT LETS BE CLEAR BRIANNA WILLIAMS WAS THE AGGRESSOR IN THIS SITUATION. SHE TAUNTED ME TO COME OUT OF MY ROOM, YELLING LIKE SHE HAD NO SENSE. YET CALLED THE COPS AS IF I CAUSED THE CONFLICT.

AND THIS IS WHITE WOMANHOOD. BEING THE AGGRESOR THEN PLAYING THE VICTIM. BRIANNA PUT MY BLACK BODY AT RISK OVER 72 DEGREES

SHE CALLED THE COPS ON ME OVER A DISPUTE ABOUT THE HEAT WHICH I THOUGHT WAS RESOLVED BUT CLEARLY NOT.

DID A BLACK WOMAN NOT JUST RECENTLY GET SHOT IN HER HOME DURING A WELLNESS CHECK? SHE INTENTIONALLY PUT MY LIFE AT RISK.

DO YALL KNOW HOW SCARED I WAS WHEN I SAW THE POLICE? NOT BECAUSE I DID ANYTHING WRONG BUT BECAUSE I AM A LARGER SIZED, LOUD BLACK WOMAN. IVE SEEN TOO MANY WOMAN WHO LOOK LIKE ME HAVE VIOLENCE USED AGAINST THEM FOR LESS

Hey @Suffolk_U @Suffolk_Law is this what you train your first year law students to do? Be the aggressor in situations then call the cops on a person threatning their livelihood? Wasting the time of police officers and tax payer dollars? In addition to causing me personal trauma

- @Suffolk_Law @Suffolk_U a first year law student of yours by the name of Brianna Williams called the police on me over a dispute that she aggressed over heat. I’m sincerely disappointed if this is how we’re training future lawyers to handle situations.

Further documentation of Brianna William’s microagressions against me. Earlier this year she stated she feels it would be “safer” for her to stay in the further bedroom. She never answered me on what about me made her feel unsafe...

I’m so glad from the screenshots and what not it clearly illustrates this was about power and control and not temperature. Brianna and I concluded are augment agreeing that 72 degrees would be the set temperature. She literally said “actually that’s perfect”& then called the cops

I do thank y’all for all of your love and advice. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next. Someone suggested subleasing until the lease is up (August 2020) but that’s considering she even leaves.

It sucks I just moved here (from my parents home btw) this past September. All new bedroom furniture and what not. This isnt how imagined my first living situation at all 😩

I can’t get a copy of this police report until Tuesday because Monday is a holiday and police reports are only printed Monday-Thursday 🥴
