Labour is planning to offer free broadband for all by 2030. Several problems:
- Millions of people subscribe to Virgin Media, and they will have Gigabit-capable cable laid to nearly 15 million homes before end of 2020.
- Many millions more are on smaller but fast-growing services
- Way before 2030, what qualifies as "fast broadband" will be unrecognisably different to today. It may be 5G (which we already have many competing providers for) rather than fixed, for example. And it will be speeds of 500Mbps+. So "fast" will mean something very different.
So it's as if they're proposing buying and running the world's best network of horses in a world of cars. A very costly and complex network of horses, no less.

It does appear that the deadline for both registering as a candidate in the elections, and for withdrawing, has passed. According to the official Electoral Commission guidance, the two deadlines are the same (sections 1.33 and 1.35 and 1.52)

The withdrawal form also has a deadline of 4pm on the 19th working day before polling on it. And today's that day, incredible though that seems.

In other words, the candidate lists are now set in stone, for sure.

What does that mean?

It means the time for formal electoral pacts is over. (Thanks for nothing, Labour!)

Any future accommodations will have to involve candidates "not really trying" because their names will still appear on the ballot on polling day.

What continuity Remain seem not to notice is that they actually need Labour voters.

Another personal favourite attack line is that glassy-eyed intoning of 'Corbyn cult' by people who define their entire identity by a single word on a ballot from 30 months ago.
Actually, let's call out this galaxy brain stuff for what it is. Ignorant, disrespectful & pathetic.

I know what it's like on the inside of the Remain cult. Before they expelled me from their DM groups I saw what a strange echo chamber it was becoming.
