Are we really to believe that Wednesday’s witnesses, each demonstrating a lifetime of integrity and experience working in Republican and Democratic administrations, would lie? Do we want to predetermine that EVERY OTHER witness is also lying?
Or is it more plausible that a known con man is conning the American public?
Trump thumping loyalists and Fox News shout “hearsay” and “deep state conspiracy”, and assert that Ukraine made an effort to meddle in the 2016 elections, while ignoring the EXTENSIVE evidence provided by every American intelligence agency that Russia meddled in that election.
If you are among these people, I implore you to listen to testimony, to fact and reason. Do not build your house on a Fox-Breitbart-alt right foundation of quicksand.

I was struck Weds. by the stories and demeanor of the two witnesses that testified. William Taylor (Top 1% in West Point class) chose a vulnerable spot in the Infantry during Viet Nam, then worked in public service. These choices were made to serve something greater than himself.
And we heard from George Kent, a Harvard graduate and decades-long diplomat who speaks Ukrainian, Russian and Thai. Again we see a public servant who has chosen to serve a purpose beyond his own ego.
In this age of celebrity and social media, people often seek their 15 seconds of fame rather than serve a greater purpose. My hope is that public servants such as Kent, Taylor, Yovanovich, Vindman and Hill serve as role models to new generations.

The current scandal unfolding in front of our eyes doesn’t JUST involve Donald Trump.  It involves Attorney General William Barr as well.  If you want to understand HOW an Attorney General and a Justice Department is supposed to act, let’s talk history.
During the Watergate Scandal, Nixon’s VP Spiro Agnew was wrapped up in his own scandal.  At this time, there was a concurrent federal investigation surrounding corruption in Maryland politics (where Agnew had been Governor).  And just who was investigating the VP?
Attorney General Elliot Richardson.  Richardson was a LIFELONG Republican, appointed by Republican Richard Nixon.  Richardson's lead prosecutor was a lifelong Republican named George Beall.  Beall’s brother was a sitting Republican Senator who VP Agnew previously helped elect!

Since I started speaking out, some have called me a RINO (if you aren’t familiar with the term, it stands for Republican In Name Only. Ultra-right-wing R's use it if someone isn't “falling in line,” and define that as anyone who isn't fully embracing the President).
I reject this characterization. I am not the RINO. The Republican Party has lost its moorings - Donald Trump is the RINO.
Under Trump we have record debt (real R’s care about budgets). Under Trump we have a trade war (real R’s believe in free trade. Under Trump we disrespect intelligence agencies (real R’s respect the rule of law and the competence of the Foreign Service).

The statement — signed by myriad former career government employees as well as high-profile political appointees — offers a rebuttal to Attorney General Barr’s determination that the evidence Mueller uncovered was “not sufficient” to establish that Trump committed a crime.
