There is no difference between people who go around excoriating people for not being "woke" and people who go around excoriating people for being "fake woke". It's the same thing: you think there's one correct enlightened way to be and people who are another way are garbage.
Well, there's one difference. There's never actually been a sizable number of people calling themselves "woke" and going around shutting people down for being "unwoke". It's like "PC" or "SJW". Almost soon as the term grew beyond its original cultural connotation, it was negative
Maybe 1% of people in public discourse talking about "wokeness" are using it to refer to a positive quality they have or value. The rest throw it at other people: "fake woke', "woke scold", etc., in exactly the same way and for exactly the same reason as one calls something "PC".
This thread is probably the most I've ever used the word on here and now that it's over, I'll go back to not using it. It was a useful concept that was misappropriated, misapplied, overapplied, and then became its own backlash in the blink of an eye. I have no reason to use it.
