Just throwing this out there:

My husband & I are pretty hapless when it comes to catchizing my kids. We have family prayers & Bible reading at breakfast & I'm SUPER proud of us for that. But the best thing we've ever done as a family was that...
We read through/listened to the entire Bible over the course of 5 years. We did 1 chapter/day, 5 days a week (essentially 5 chapters a week).
We'd get behind & then have to catch up but it was great family project. We broke it down so we had goals for a year at a time. (NT one year, Penteteuch, the next, etc.) Each new year felt like fresh start.
We had the best & weirdest conversations about what we heard. (We often used audio Bible b/c mom & dad were just done by end of day when we remembered.)
The best part was that it was completely doable. Low expectations, simply, clear process. Sit & listen to one chapter of the Bible together.
It also didn't require that mom & dad be feeling "spiritual" all the time. We needed to hear the Scripture as much as our kids did. We weren't always leading them so much as coming with them together.
I was thinking about this today b/c I know how much parents want to pass along faith & how hard we try & how often we fail. And I just want to say, stick w/ the basics. Read the Bible w/ your kids. Take them to church. Pray w/ them. Live openly before them.

"Your culture is what you tolerate."

I ran across this statement recently & found it a really powerful explanation for how individual apathy can create an environment that enables evil & ultimately harms common good.
One of the things we struggle w/ in our modern culture is atomization: We don't understand how the actions of individuals affect the whole. And vice versa.
So you hear things like:

"If you don't believe in abortion, don't get one."

and

"Don't talk to me about reparations--my ancestors never owned anyone."

A couple more thoughts for those pondering yesterday's thread on gender identity via imago Dei:

Part of the difficulty is our resistance to paradox. Human maleness & femaleness in image of God is, at root, a paradox--two realities that at first seem contradictory.
How can humanity be represented in two disparate embodiments? And yet, to be man is to be human and to be woman is to be human.
Predictably, we try to resolve the paradox either by setting the two realities in opposition to each other or uncoupling the paradox altogether.

So about a month back I had my final exams. I was on self imposed lockdown. my mental health was terrible, physical even more. basically I was weak on every front.

It is NOT true that #ThomasJefferson excised ALL of Jesus’ miracles from his so-called “bibles” (abridgements of the Gospels). Even if it was true, it is not entirely clear to me what it says about Jefferson or his goals in abridging the Gospels. #JeffersonBible
“Life and Morals of Jesus,” e.g., one of Jefferson’s “bibles,” includes Luke 14:4 (in French), reporting that Jesus healed a man with dropsy. (NB: the precise contents of "Philosophy of Jesus,” another Jefferson “bible,” is unknown, but its table of texts includes Luke 14:1-6.)

On 2nd August 1990 Iraq invaded its tiny southern neighbour, the State of Kuwait. The invasion occurred just as the old order of global geopolitics was collapsing, spurring an international reaction & resulting in the last major conflict of the 20th century: the Gulf War
Kuwait suffered terribly under Iraqi occupation for nearly 7 months before being liberated by an international coalition comprising nearly one million military personnel in February 1991.

The operation was called Desert Storm & lasted 6 weeks /2
Iraq swept into Kuwait with what was then the world’s 5th largest army, but the invaders didn’t have it all their own way. For 2 days, Kuwait’s small, vigilant force held out.

2/ The Apollo 11 celebration is important to our family for personal reasons. My dad Theodore (Ted) Metzger was super proud to have worked on the Apollo program. He was a quality control inspector on the ground systems at @NASAKennedy...
3/ He was in the US Army Air Corps in WW2 and was injured in Italy. He was honorably discharged but got a waiver for his injuries to join the newly formed US Air Force as a flight engineer. He retired when I was 2 years old to work in the space program in his hometown in Florida.

#b 'Teknik menjawab' is not a series of rituals that you carry out to secure an A in the exam. You don't get guaranteed an A just through superficial actions like highlighting keywords or drawing meniscus or inserting isi tersirat.
The problem is students and teachers treat teknik menjawab as some sort of pseudo magical ritualistic gestures that will bring a certain outcome. Draw a pentagram, slaughter a chicken, and your wish will be granted.
Some remote Pacific Islanders in 1940s came in contact with Allied and Japanese soldiers who were more technologically advanced and thought the soldiers were gods who had many "cargo" (canned food, electronics, modern stuff)
