But when he opened the envelope to discover the name, it was a big shock to discover it was our family's name. It was a relative...>
It's not just that it's an unusual name. They also give you background about where the family came from. They came from the same place....>
My grandmother used to cling to her family photo of a big family. They all ended up in Auschwitz. We know for certain because my mother found them there, thanks to meticulous German paperwork...>
So our joyous coming of age ceremony will be shared by our young relative, murdered before he could come of age...>
His murder didn't come out of nowhere. The hate built for thousands of years, leading to the Holocaust. Thousands of years of mocking us. Abusing us. Lying about us. Blaming us. Once again, I see it being done by people with power and influence which trickles down....>
And I ask myself, will the next family Barmitzvah even be in this country?
