The @nytimes today had a big piece on the killing of Razan (or as they write it, "Rouzan") al-Najjar in both the print & online editions. They invested a lot of reporting/writing resources in it. It reached some important conclusions. But... > (thread) nytimes.com/2018/12/30/wor…

70 years ago today, the UN General Assembly passed Resn 194 (III) which resolved that, "the refugees [from Palestine] wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date & unispal.un.org/DPA/DPR/unispa… >

To quote @gazawia -
"May 15, 1948 is what Palestinians call the #Nakba - a day when we lost our homeland. The Nakba never ended; Palestinians continue to be denied a homeland and the right to exist. The #GreatMarchOfReturn is #Gaza‘s popular form of resistance to demand return"
#MyNakbaStory - my family were natives of the Old City, but in the late 1930's purchased a home in Bak'a/Katamon area of West Jerusalem. Very shortly after, unrest began as zionist militias ratcheted up the violence in anticipation of 1948
My great grandfather attempted to remain in his home in West Jerusalem for as long as possible, but eventually had to flee with his many young children in tow. My grandmother remembers her father admonishing her mother, telling her "No need to take so many things! We'll be back!"
