Ok, here is a serious thread on the Bloomberg announcement. A key point is that Bloomberg is no Steyer or Schultz. He's a serious candidate that has political experience (NYC mayor) & more imp, as part of his political advocacy, a lot of deep relationships w Democrats. He will
start w better name ID than Deval Patrick- by far- and will have an unlimited amount of $ to establish more. I can't overstate how imp an asset this is. That said, he's starting WAY behind. Perhaps his best asset is that people are generally spooked that Biden has lost a beat &
there could be appetite for an alt that seems safe. Every other alt, to the media establishment, comes w risk. The backlash to his candidacy from the progressive wing will no doubt be robust which is funny bc if there is a biggest loser from a Bloomberg run (and its Biden) the
biggest winner is the progressive faction, bc right now that vote is neatly cleaved in 2 between Warren & Sanders while the mod wing is less divided. Adding Bloomberg into the mix, esp if he catches fire but not a lot of fire, could cause that faction's vote to fracture too much
and allow one of the progressives (likely Warren who is making gains among black voters) to win.
