Which brings me to one silver lining we have right now. Even though 1/2 of the GOP is using Russian propaganda about Ukraine (they have been briefed not to use by the intel community) as of right now we are still forcing Trump to behave in accordance w longstanding national
security principles of the U.S. in terms of Russian and North Korean sanctions, and now these sanctions for Hong Kong, via massive bipartisan cooperation in Congress.

long term realignment of white, working class voters away from the Ds, set into motion before Trump & will continue after him just as the realignment of college educated voters to the Ds predates the arrival of Trump- who added kerosene to it by driving up turnout. And this WILL
cause geographic issues for Ds in the future, in any scenario where D turnout recedes (say 2022 midterms and 2024 if a D POTUS is running for reelection) but not in 2020. In 2020, turnout is going to be massive in the suburbs and cities. Massive.

No. There is definitely not more rural votes to surge from than suburban/urban. To be clear, Cohn et al are not making that claim. They are saying that pro-Dem surges are tied to education & that the Midwest is lower edu than safe Blue states. And they're not wrong about that.
But those Midwestern states are not as low education as many other states either, including many that reliably break D and are even more white (NH, for ex). And what they are arguing is that in a high turnout environment, the low edu turnout will be heightened & non-college edu
voters will make up the majority of the electorate. But keep in mind. Not all non-college educated voters are white and not all non-college educated white voters are breaking for the GOP-ESP ones that sat out 2016.
