Today #25November is important to give voice to the fight against patriarchal violence and all the achievements that the women revolution in Rojava is developing to this aim. One of the most beautiful examples is jinwar, the women village. Opening thread
The first time I visited Jimwar in summer 2017 it was construction process. They expropriated a pice of land belonging to the regime to build this utopia village, to give shelter to all women that suffered from the way and want to build a free live together
Jinwar was a project discussed for years in the Kurdish women movement, and the Rojava Revolution create the potential to transform the theory in practice. It was build also with ecological perspective, with the traditional Rojava architecture using ‘kerpic’ (mud bricks)
The construction works were a important experience, not only to gather knowledge of traditional Architecture but also to experience the comunal live and to open important discussions about what means to build a women village in the middle of the revolution and war against daesh
A lot of women took part in the works, this pictures are from a day of ‘open doors’ were the jinwar committee invited everyone to help moving bricks to finishing the first houses in autumn 2017
I came back to jinwar few months ago to work in a project to bring solar energy, and it was impressive to see not only the different houses and things they built but specially the community they created, with Arab, Kurd and international women working and living together
They built a school for the kids, and oven that provides bread to jinwar and to the villages around, a hospital researching on natural medicine, a jineoloji academy for education about women and community... Jinwar is the paradigmatic example of what is the Rojava Revolution
But with the attacks of the Turkish army and other fascist Islamist groups, Jinwar has been threatened and they had been forced to evacuate the village. Today Jinwar publishes this statement womendefendrojava.net/en/2019/11/25/…
Jinwar is an example that another world is not only possible, but necessary. A world we’re women can decide together how they want to live, creating a community of sisterhood nd fraternity challenging the patriarchal mentality that humanity is suffering for thousands of years
The Turkish occupation in northern Syria is not only threatening Jinwar but also the women revolution and its values. Women are being murdered and their bodies humiliated by yihadists groups, and hundreds of thousand are forced to leave their homes to save their lives.
But the women in Rojava are ready to defend themselves and defend their land, ready to continue leading this revolution to challenge patriarchal mentality, ready to light hope in a brighter future, because #WomenDefendRojava
