CEO of Australia's 2nd largest bank resigns over a #MoneyLaundering scandal involving child exploitation!
Bank said it would be destabilizing to fire him & then did anyway! They are 3rd of the Big 4 Aussie banks to lose their CEO!

The bank allowed 23 million illegal off shore transactions including those linked to "child exploitation".
Apparently the bank thought 'mainstream Australia' wouldn't pay much attention to this scandal, but times are changing...
Even the regulators who had ignored the issue for years reversed course in September leading to this termination of the CEO.

But the bank didn't look closely & managed to not notice that it's customers were paying for child trafficking...

Serious enough that Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said Westpac have "given a free pass to paedophiles" and should pay the price.

Of course the bank will pay the CEO $2.7M for the next year to cushion the blow of his firing. Might also help keep him silent!

Currency trades are sometimes used as a profit making & money laundering tool. You make a bad trade with someone to eat the losses while they pocket the profit. Were they hiding from their bosses that they were betting to lose on the trades?
The traders are accused of 'mismarking' trades, essentially putting them in the system with a false claim as to their value.

It is fucking ridiculous that the ABC has pulled the show from repeat views & that the government is involved via a ministerial statement & parliament inquiry. Such censorship & govt interference are dangerous & sinister esp in light of raids against the media in #Australia.
It is instructive that outrage over daily and actual violence against women and gender diverse people does not warrant such swift investigations or govt action. Instead, asking “How many rapists must we kill until men stop raping us?” terrifies white men into action.

Here's another possible scandal involving a Munich-based mobile payment processor, Wirecard.

A whistleblower alerted their compliance team abt suspicious transactions in Asia, & their head of Int'l Finance in Singapore was accused of cooking the books for other Asian entities.
There was an inquiry/internal investigation started in April 2018 of Wirecard's Singapore office and they found evidence of forgery, potential #MoneyLaundering, and other accounting irregularities.

Way back in 2007, Danske Bank was criticized by the Estonian regulator and received info from Danish regulators pointing out: “criminal activity in its pure form, including #MoneyLaundering."🤨

#DanskeBank FAILED to do anything to stop it. Why not? Likely, b/c they PROFITED.🤬2/
In 2014 (7 years later!), a whistleblower at the Estonian branch said that #DanskeBank did NOT properly investigate the #MoneyLaundering allegations, which were not shared with its board.
