#didyouknow there is not a single narration in our early primary sources that indicate the sword of Imam Ali was a double edged sword, rather our Imams state it was called Dhulfiqar for other reasons. It was the later scholars that concluded that Dhulfiqar is double edged.
Our Imams state that it was called Dhulfiqar because Imam Ali did not strike anyone from the creations of Allah except that he deprived them of this world, their family & children, & deprived them in the hereafter from heaven (meaning Imam Ali only struck those who deserved hell)
In another narration Imam As Sadiq (AS) states that it was called Dhulfiqar because there was a line in the middle of it that resembled a backbone.
From my research it was only the later scholars that concluded that Dhulfiqar is a double edged sword, I humble always say the opinion of a scholar is not a proof, rather his evidences is!
What is clear is that our Imams never stated it was double edged, & Allah knows best.
