I can't stop thinking about this story.

We live in a country where sick, financially strained people are arrested, humiliated, and pushed to the brink just for trying to get medical care that will keep them alive. features.propublica.org/medical-debt/w…
This father who was working two jobs at 70hrs a week with no health insurance has been arrested because he and his sick wife, who cares for his sick son, committed the unforgivable sin of...getting medical care.

They filed for bankruptcy and lost their home.
I am so thankful to @lizziepresser for writing this and to @propublica for publishing it, but it absolutely breaks my heart that they had to.

This does not happen in other comparable countries.

As Democrats stand poised to give Trump his biggest policy victory in 2 years, it's important to remember that during the Obama years, Republicans would vote against anything—even bills *they had co-sponsored*—if Obama came out in support of the bills.
Barely a year into Obama's presidency, he was pushing a deficit task force that had been championed by Senators Conrad (D) and Gregg (R). The bill failed because six of its Republican co-sponsors....voted against it politico.com/story/2010/01/…

Trump says he held up military aid to Ukraine because of concerns he had over corruption in the country.

Meanwhile, the IMF just approved a $5.5 billion loan to Ukraine, recognizing the progress the country has made fighting corruption nytimes.com/2019/12/08/wor…
Remember, this squares with the assessment of Trump's own Pentagon. As a DoD official testified last month, top-level national security officials "expressed unanimous support for resuming the funding," citing Ukraine's *progress fighting corruption.*
The same official confirmed that two months before Trump's call with Zelensky and before the freeze was put in place, the Pentagon had determined that Ukraine had met the requirements for combatting the very corruption that Trump claimed he was concerned about.
