I understand that @RobertJenrick has been on Question Time tonight peddling the #FakeLaw myth that we spend more on legal aid than any other country.

This was a lie when his party said it in 2010. It remains a lie today. I can lend Robert a book explaining this if it helps.
For the benefit of @RobertJenrick, here is a free explanation of why parroting “We have the most expensive legal aid system in Europe/the world/the universe” is palpable bullshit. If he has any integrity, Robert should apologise for misleading the electorate. [1/2]

Today, @BorisJohnson has again declared that he is going to be “tough on serious crime”. By which he means he will make prison sentences a bit longer.

FWIW, I’d suggest that any politician who really cared about improving criminal justice might start with the following. [THREAD]
1. Replace the 21,000 police officers cut since 2010, and recruit sufficient additional officers to investigate the sharp rise in violent crime.

If you wrongly accuse someone of saying something terrible when they haven’t, it makes it that much easier for them to escape scrutiny on the occasions that they have.

Come on, people.
If you get it wrong, be honest, admit fault and resolve to do better.

Surprising that any of this has to be said.

Some things that have helped me improve vs the traditional 'value investor' I was 15 years ago. Two categories: quality & contrarianism

On quality: spend more time on direction vs width of comp advantage...
Spend more time on differences in operating model (or business model) and nuanced patterns associated with high returns (example small % of customer costs but mission critical) vs general 'moats', ie spend more time on the actual operating intricacies
Spend more time researching on the ground & speaking to people in the field and less time behind a desk. People who interact operationally with a company often have perspective you can't get in documents. Stop looking for ‘single factors’…atypical returns result from confluence

1) I "got an Irish passport just to apply for this visa" I got my Irish passport 6 years before I met my husband 1/18
"It's a political stunt" It's a court case asking the British government to accept me as an Irish citizen & to stablise my husband’s immigration status. We had applied, appealed & been in the immigration system for 18 months before we spoke to any politician or the media. 2/
"We wanted to avail of the more liberal EU rules" There's 2 options lads, spouse of a British citizen or an EEA residence card for the spouse of an EU national - guess which one is for Irish citizens? This was not an attempt to circumvent the immigration rules 3/
