I think @JohnCendpts did a great job in laying out some of the hype behind the @washingtonpost story on Enbrel and Alzheimer's. If you don't subscribe to Endpoints and have any interest in the life sciences at all, do so.

John's expose of the bad Academic behavior of the guy behind the 'whistleblowing" is great. It's a shame the post ran with this story without checking out the full background. Make no mistake, the post story is just *bad* science journalism.
It's not like the Academic world doesn't have legitimate beefs along this line with Pfizer: ask any transplant surgeon about Xeljanz, and you are likely to get an earful.

But the Enbrel /Alzheimer's story is not, IMO, a case of Pharma abandoning a potentially beneficial therapy.

The #mind is a guide for great journeys. If you are going somewhere, the mind is very happy; in your going somewhere the mind can feel enhanced. But if you are not going anywhere, just sitting #silently, doing nothing, the mind feels very #sad.
It will happen almost always to meditators that when the mind feels sad, it starts creating #boredom for you; that is a strategy of the mind. The mind is saying, "Come on! Let us go somewhere, let us do something. Why are you sitting? Just sitting doing nothing brings boredom!"

For a long time I struggled with how to start Girl At War--

What, after all, marks the beginning of the end?
I settled on the cigarette story in part because it was a real thing that had happened to a close friend of mine, in Split when he was about 6.
But I also picked that story because at the time, it was just one of a million little anomalies. It felt exactly as weird and confusing as all the other little, everyday things that had been happening. The point of no return didn't announce itself with a parade.
