You need to ask yourself, what message does it send to Ukraine if Rudy continues to say, "I'm the president's lawyer and we need more information on the Biden's." If by continuing to ask he sends the message "We can do this with impunity."
This is a direct continuation of the crimes for which Trump is being impeached...as he is being impeached. It sends a clear message to Ukraine (and to other governments) that they should play ball or risk falling out of favor with the most powerful country in the world.
If the GOP Senate protects the president and allows him to do it, what message are they sending? They are saying "the president has our permission to shake you down for information that helps us." They are committing the same crime. They are abusing their power for personal gain.
The government of the United States is being criminalized before our eyes. The abuse of power is becoming institutionalized, mandated. Crimes will continue and multiply. U.S. foreign policy will now openly turn on whether countries help Trump and the GOP or not.
This is not a hypothetical nor is it an overstatement. And because the Senate will not vote to convict and remove Trump, it will certainly continue throughout 2020. Keep that in mind. The Senate is not just going to vote to acquit. Their vote is part of the crime.
Barr's refusal to prosecute is part of the crime. Trump's witness intimidation is part of the crime. The GOP histrionics in the House are a part of the crime. And if a successor government fails to hold them accountable, fails to send people to jail, the crime will recur.
The message Trump and Rudy and Barr and McConnell and McCarthy and the lot of them are sending to the world is that America, like Russia, is a mafia state, corrupt to its core. And so long as they remain in power, we will be. Corruption is absolute.
Therefore there is no government on earth more corrupt than the United States government under Donald Trump and this GOP.
