It's been a historic week in the fight against face surveillance:

Brookline, MA, San Diego, CA, and Seattle, WA each took steps to limit local use of face surveillance.

On Tuesday, Sea-Tac airport halted plans to implement face recognition: usnews.com/news/best-stat…
Across the country, the Select Board of the town of Brookline, MA voted to ban government use of face recognition, joining nearby Somerville, MA. brookline.wickedlocal.com/news/20191211/…
And, in San Diego, notice was issued that one of the nation’s largest, longest running, and most controversial face recognition programs will be suspended. eff.org/deeplinks/2019…
This was the first time this many government bodies took action to halt face surveillance in one week.

It won't be the last.

That's what Ring said in 2016, according to this staggering history of how Amazon's surveillance doorbell company built over 600 police partnerships and put cameras on front doors across America.

And that's not all we learned this week:
As recently as July, police could access a "heat map" that got very close to showing specific locations of Ring cameras in their town. (Ring has maintained that they do not show exactly where cameras are located.)

Here's a story of woman who grew to regret sharing footage of a man on her porch from her Ring camera. That night, deputies killed the man during a separate encounter, as the footage continued to garner cruel comments online.

Over 2 years after the Muslim Ban was enacted, today's House #MuslimBanHearing is the 1st ever held by Congress. As we listen in, we remember the many versions of the Ban proposed by this administration under the veil of national security but clearly steeped in bigotry.
Trump’s Justices did his bidding & allowed the Ban to take effect. With an unreliable judiciary, it's time Congress act now & pass the #NoBanAct. The bill would immediately end the Muslim Ban & establish safeguards to prevent future presidents from enacting a similar ban again.

We begin this thread with a story... the story of how twatter throttles voices they don't like. As many are aware, this account has been heavily throttle for more than a year now. And no, the truth is, the numbers just don't add up.
If you will recall, I was able to figure out the person behind the algorithms was one named Nick Pickles, twatter COO. He was called into a hearing in March of '18 over in the UK over "hate speech" where he said they were developing an algorithm to fight against the issue.

SAN DIEGO, CA – On Thursday, October 25, 2018 a federal jury in San Diego, California, found Isaiah Smallwood-Jackson guilty of production of child pornography, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251(a) and enticement of a minor, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2422(b),
announced United States Attorney Adam Braverman. The convictions trigger mandatory minimum sentences of 15 and 10 years, respectively.
