One immediate takeaway from the new @TRACReports data on MPP cases is...

...that we have absolutely no idea how many people have been subject to MPP.

TRAC shows 56,004 MPP cases filed in court through November. But on 12/9/19, CBP said an audit showed they’d sent back 54,000.
The @TRACReports analysis of @DOJ_EOIR data found 56,004 MPP cases through 11/31. On 12/9, CBP said only 54,000 has been sent back.

Did CBP not only double-counted some people subject to MPP, but file more than one case for the same person?

Did CBP’s auditors also screw up?

NEW! The long-dreaded rule on "Procedures for Asylum and Bars to Asylum Eligibility" is finally out, and it's a doozy, further limiting asylum—already ravaged by the Trump administration's other rules—mostly by adding sweeping new criminal bars.

Currently, individuals convicted of a "particularly serious crime" are ineligible for asylum, although they may be eligible for other protections.

The new regulation would make conviction of any one of a huge swath of crimes—including DUIs and drug possession—a bar to asylum.

Digging into these emails reveals the mindset by which the Trump administration builds its anti-immigrant propaganda.

Take this email, where Feere asks USCIS to dig up a defendant's immigration history and complains that DOJ won't mention that she was born in Pakistan.
Breitbart used to have a "Black Crime" story tag. These emails show how the Trump administration has effectively created its own "Immigrant Crime" version of that.

For a couple years now, people appearing for check-ins at the Miramar ICE office have been forced to wait outside in line for hours, with no shade, bathrooms, or water fountains.

Earlier this year, ICE banned third parties from passing out water.
Government officials from the City of Miramar have asked local ICE leadership to find some way to protect people in line from heatstroke. ICE added a few tents, but the lines quickly outgrew them.

@TalKopan first broke the news of the EOIR replacement of in-person interpreter w a video advisals. I just read the scripts for detained and non-detained cases and they are so F*ing misleading. Just wow!
First, advisals are unduly long & complicated. Substantively they are mucho problematic. For example both detained & non-detained are told they have to select country of removal. They dont. In fact, selecting country of origins could be used as a factor undermining fear of return
Second, advising ppl that if they are ordered removed they would be removed to the country sected convey a misleading choice. If you are from Guatemala but just select to be removed to France, is just not gonna happen.

A snapshot of the people who ICE detains found that 58% had no criminal record. An even larger proportion—four out of five—either had no record, or had only committed a minor offense such as a traffic violation. trac.syr.edu/immigration/re…
One out of five people were convicted of a felony. Of those only 16% had a serious, or level 1, offense. Even among Level 1 offenses ICE included crimes such as "selling marijuana" which many states have now legalized.
For those who had been convicted, the most frequent crime was illegal entry (a misdemeanor), followed by driving under the influence of alcohol. Conviction for a miscellaneous assault was third, and a simple traffic offense was the fourth most frequent offense.

Overall, this is a 20 % increase in bed space for migrant minors, most of whom are Guatemalans, Salvadorans and Hondurans.
The length of stay for a migrant minor in these facilities has steadily increased. It’s now 59 days, says HHS spokesman. That’s nearly double what it was 4 years ago. 3/

.@TRACReports found that about 1,000 of 4,500 adults arrested with kids by Border Patrol in April have been quickly deported. Many without the kids.

It appears as though several hundred parents have been deported w/out their kids in April alone.

As of April 2018, slightly more than half, 51.2%, of the kids arrested w/parents this fiscal year were only 7 years of age or younger. About 23% were three or younger. Only 5% were as old as 17.
