“Escalating & documenting concerns” - @gmcuk advice for dealing with unsafe, understaffed, crisis conditions - applies to CEOs as much as FY1s. If medicine’s leaders do not speak out - loud & clear - on impossibly overstretched conditions - what message does that send juniors?
Politicians may seek to bury bad headlines. But we in the NHS - doctors, nurses, managers, CEOs, medical directors - are there for our patients. Speaking out *has* to come from the top down. Really leadership means setting an example to frontline staff. Public candour. Please.

Hang on. I thought 50k more nurses were @BorisJohnson’s top priority?

Well, his pledge to reinstate the nursing bursary just unravelled.

A token bursary, sure. But student nurses will still have to pay uni tuition fees.

This is stunningly deceitful.

This matters because patients matter. Applicants to nursing degrees fell by 20% when the Tories axed the bursary. And we’re short of 43k nurses.

But the bursary *included* paid tuition fees.

Now it doesn’t.

Why isn’t Johnson being held to account for this electoral dishonesty?

Advice from an experienced pediatrician about interacting with your ROGD teen:
-remain calm! It's hard when things get scary, but you need to be the adult in the situation.
-don't try to change your teen's mind. When has anyone ever changed someone's mind with facts? Not often.
That said, you don't need to just go along to get along. If you have deeply held doubts that hormones and surgery are going to make your teen happy in the long run, it's perfectly reasonable to say so.
It's OK to say that the idea of surgery is scary to you.
You can say that while some doctors and therapists advise rapid diagnosis and treatment, there are other doctors who advise a slower approach.
You can say that the existence of detransitioners makes you worried that even people who feel strongly about being trans sometimes change

Doctors are no longer a driving part of the #OpioidHysteria. They never really were. Why why why are we still getting these stories instead of what’s really going on? Alt facts much? How very Trumpian. News media needs to take a good look in the mirror & start facing the truth.
Define “overprescribing” please. 91 ppl per day die from overdoses: from what exactly? Which meds? Multiple meds or just Opioids? God I’m fucking tired of this whole bs narrative still going on.
How about the painful stories of vulnerable ppl -disabled-Veterans-elderly- being cut off from #opioids & committing suicide b/c their pain is so bad?? #SuicideDue2Pain #PainKills
