Justin Clark, a senior political adviser and senior counsel to Trump’s reelection campaign, later claimed he’d been referring to “false” charges of voter suppression against Republicans. But those charges are true—and that wasn’t what he was saying. So don’t be played for a fool.
Apathy is a disease spreading through our democracy, but so is a lack of priorities. Americans—press and voters alike—have largely come to accept that Republicans will work to suppress the votes of nonwhite and poor people, and then lie in public about it. It has to matter now.
