In the brave spirit of Gwen Ifill seen below, would be remiss not to comment on deep awfulness of the Bret Stephens column that cites white supremacist “research” to make an already specious point about racial superiority.
I write a lot in the Times about how social media amplifies and weaponizes hate speech and chastise its leaders for not doing more and I truly appreciate the Times giving me the platform to do so. I hope it’s made a bit difference.
So while it might be more politic for me not to criticize the Times publicly, I am reminded and inspired by Gwen’s amazing and graceful leveling of the truth over Don Imus’ appalling remarks from long ago. She was a national treasure.
If she were alive today, she would definitely stress that it is more important to speak out about such archaic and dangerous ideas especially when propagated in what I consider one of the finest media organizations in existence today. In fact, it’s a requirement.
